Hot springs and proximity to golf and skiing are the main attractions in Radium. The commercial facilities close to the highway draw crowds all summer and skiers during the Christmas season. Condos are abundant for lock-and-leave second-home owners and recreationists on longer stays. Dramatic mountains and regular wildlife visitors define the sense of place. The climate is dry, with hot summers and colder, low snow winters. For people who don’t mind short drives in exchange for more affordable, compact lifestyles.

Healthcare

  • No hospital in the village. Invermere & District Hospital is ~15 minutes south — acute care, laboratory and 24-hour emergency (7 days a week) — with a full range of medical clinics in Invermere.
  • Dental, pharmacy and vet services are mainly in Invermere, a short drive away.

Education

  • There are no schools within the village; the district buses students to nearby schools (SD6).
  • Elementary options: Edgewater Elementary (~10 min north), and Eileen Madson, A. Laird and Windermere elementaries (~15–16 min south). The high school, David Thompson Secondary, is in Invermere (~15 min south).

Getting around

  • Radium sits at the junction of Highway 95 and Highway 93 — the southern gateway to Kootenay National Park (Highway 93 north runs to Banff). Invermere is ~15 min south; everyday shopping is ~11 min.
  • The nearest commercial airport is Cranbrook (~1 hr 45 min); Calgary is ~3 hr through the national parks. The valley floor is mild in winter, but the park route north is mountain driving — check closures.

Recreation

  • The Radium mineral pools (Parks Canada) and the Radium and Springs golf courses are the signature draws; Panorama Mountain Resort is ~35–40 min for downhill skiing.
  • Kootenay National Park trails begin at the village; the Columbia Wetlands offer paddling and birding; Lake Windermere (~20 min) adds lake boating, and Purcell backcountry sledding is close.
