Just minutes from New Denver, a small collection of restored heritage buildings forms the tight social hub.   • The nearest hospital with surgery is Arrow Lakes Hospital in Nakusp (~50 min) or Nelson (~1.25 hr). Grocery and pharmacy are in New Denver.

Getting around

  • Silverton sits on Highway 6, 4 minutes south of New Denver — all-road through the Slocan Valley (north to Nakusp, south to Slocan and Nelson). No ferries.
  • Nearest commercial airport is Castlegar (~1.5 hr), weather-dependent; regional transit only. Home fibre (Columbia Basin Trust) supports remote work.
  • The whole village is walkable; everything beyond it is a drive.

Recreation

  • Slocan Lake for swimming, paddling and fishing from Slip Day Park, with Valhalla Provincial Park’s wilderness directly across the water. Old miners’ trails climb Silverton Creek behind town; Idaho Peak and the Galena Trail are minutes away.
  • The 9-hole Slocan Lake Golf Club is ~10 minutes north; Summit Lake and Whitewater skiing are a drive.

Heritage & arts

  • For its size, Silverton carries a real cultural life: the Silverton Gallery (the Slocan Lake Arts Centre, in a 1919 schoolhouse — art, theatre and music), an outdoor mining museum, the Fingland blacksmith’s cabin, and the Silverton Hotel’s long live-music tradition.
  • A back-to-the-land Slocan Valley food and maker culture surrounds it.
